Hjelle Hotel

Hotel | Hjelle Hotel is a cozy family hotel, run by the same family since 1896.

Hjelle lies at the east end of Oppstrynsvatnet lake in Stryn Municipality, in a quiet place with magnificent scenery, with an atmosphere of old rural culture. It is located between the municipality center Stryn and Stryn Summer Ski Center.

The hotel has a simple standard, with 16 rooms in the main part and 12 rooms in the motel. The hotel combines modern comfort with old Norwegian cultural tradition. The hotel has many lounges, one in the old style, fireplaces, meeting rooms and a large dining room that seats 100 guests. The hotel has four room categories: Romance Room with Balcony, Mini-Balcony or Suite, Romance Room with Shower and WC, Twin Room with Shower and WC, Economy - Motel / Annex - Double Room with Shower and WC.

The oldest part of the Hjelle Hotel is built in Swiss style, like many other wooden hotels in Western Norway from the same period. The first tourists came to Hjelle with the steamboat "Fridtjov Nansen", early in the 1890s. At that time it was no other than simple stove houses and farmbuildings there at the north end of Oppstrynsvatnet. From the shore, the tourists could see towards Tindefjella in the south, a row of nunataks surrounded by snow and ice.

Jostedalsbreen National Park Center is only five kilometers from the hotel. Right next to the hotel is the "Gamlebutikken på Hjelle" which was built in 1882 and is run by the same family as Hjelle hotell. Today it serves as a shop for local handcraft and English porcelain, as well as a café with simple coffee food (sandwiches, soup and cake).
Dinner at Hjelle Hotel:

The hotel serves a 3-course dinner, which starts between 08:00. 7pm and 7pm. 20:00 left evening in season. As a main course, one can choose between a meat or fish dish. It is best to book a table before noon. 16:00 on the day of arrival.
